Mare Island Naval Shipyard - Monochrome

Posted by Bill Brown (California, United States) on 11 November 2012 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

Mare Island Project: November 2012

History: In all, Mare Island Naval Shipyard built 512 ships and repaired over a thousand more during its lifetime. Included in that number was the battleship U.S.S. California, the only battleship built on the West Coast. The U.S.S. California was launched 20 November 1919. It was subsequently sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor, whereby 100 of her crew were lost and 62 wounded. On 25 March 1942, California was refloated and dry-docked at Pearl Harbor for repairs.
