Early Spring Wild Flowers - 1 of 4

Posted by
Bill Brown (California, United States) on 1 March 2011 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

While many areas are still deep in snow, it looks like spring has come early around here. I spotted these wild flowers along a section of one the numerous nature trails in Folsom, only about a 10 minute walk from my house. This section was completed only a few months ago so this is the first bloom of wildflowers. Photo taken on Feb. 24, 2011.

Beautiful and heartwarming colours Bill! A sight for sore eyes as we are still in the bitter grip of winter. Temperatures this morning at -45C (-49F).....explitive deleted!!! Thank you for sharing! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks for your comments Eric! If its any consolation, I can drive 45 minutes east and be knee deep in snow. Another foot or so of new snow is expected in the nearby mountains over the next couple of days.

Barbara Lee from Oakland, United States

Welcome spring! Your selective focus on the few poppies in the foreground works well here.

These are gorgeous, Bill! I agree with Barbara but I also just like the entire focus treatment you employed! The first bloom is always best, seems like year after year, the colors aren't quite as vibrant...we had a similar deal way back when at Sierra College (I'm talking '66 and early spring of '67... just before "Army time")....they had done some excavating and replanting one year and the following spring, the poppies exploded and it was like paradise...Barbara and I still remember that...the following year they weren't quite as plentiful. Years later we visited and they were almost gone! So, enjoy those early spring deserve it!
