Red Rock Canyon Panorama

Posted by
Bill Brown (California, United States) on 30 October 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

While in Las Vegas I was able to make one photo side trip to Red Rock Canyon. This image is a six shot panorama merged in Photoshop CS5. This resulted in a 592 MB TIF file which I converted to a compressed JPEG file for posting.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located about 15 miles (24 km) west of Las Vegas. The conservation area showcases a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 feet (2,485 m). The area is visited by over 1 million visitors each year. A one-way loop road, 13 miles (21 km) long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area.

San G. from Encino, California, United States

Dear Bill,
what a wonderful way to present a panorama of Red Rock! I wasn't as clever, and just shot it and cropped the image to LOOK like a panorama ... We usually go to Death Valley after Red Rock Canyon ... I forget how close Vegas is (maybe we can include it sometime!). Here's the shot I was talking about: http://sjginsberg.aminus3.com/image/2010-10-20.html

@San G.: Thanks for your comments San and for sharing your Red Rock Canyon image. I was in Death Valley some years ago and would really like to get back. I have it on my wish list for next year.
