Mono Lake Sunset

Posted by Bill Brown (California, United States) on 29 July 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I've decided to dig into the archives for a few images. This sunset image was taken in the fall of 2008 during a trip to the Eastern Sierra. Mono Lake, with its amazing tufa formations, is one of the unique places in the world to visit.

I wish I had such a beauty in my archives :D As you said, this must really be a unique place, and the hdr treatment works so well here... I just love it Bill :)

@Tamara: Thanks for your comments Tamara! I took a lot of photos during this trip, however back then I had not experimented with HDR, so images like this one I put aside. Now that I have improved my processing skills, including HDR, I'm taking a second look at some of the images I previously passed over.

Mici from Tg Mures, Romania

Did you remember this place because of latest news of Ansel Adams ? This is an amazing piece of art you have here, deserves a print..10 stars :)

29 Jul 2010 11:19am

@Mici: Thanks Mici! I appreciate your comments. Actually, it had been so hot the past few weeks I didn't have to energy to go out and shoot, except for last Saturday, so I decided to dig into my archives for something new to post. However, the news of the Ansel Adams negatives is quite interesting and I'm a huge fan of his work. I have several of his books and a few posters on the wall.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Hi Bill -You know, I really do love this one! Most of the images I have seen of the Tufas and Mono include a serene or "smoothed" water and bright tones and colors in the sky - which are all gorgeous and totally cool....but this somewhat more stormy image displays the more tempermental side and therefore is a scene that we don't usually see in print at least ....consequently, this is a completely unique capture and I really love it Bill. I agree with the comment above, this one needs to be in print for sure! Great, Great job sir!

29 Jul 2010 2:05pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks Denny! I really appreciate your comments. There was varying amounts of cloud cover during this entire Eastern Sierra trip. The good news is I did not have to worry about trying to exclude an empty sky in any of my images. I really do have to work on printing and framing some of my images.

Michael Rawluk from Canada

Oh, no. Now I have another place on my list of must visits.

29 Jul 2010 4:15pm

@Michael Rawluk: Michael, it is an awesome place to visit, so if you get the opportunity do go. One bit of information about Mono Lake is that it is many times saltier than the ocean, so no fish can survive in the lake.

LauraS from Chico, United States
