The Seattle Japanese Garden is a 3.5 acre (14,000 m²) Japanese garden located in the southwest corner of the Washington Park Arboretum. The Washington Park Arboretum is a joint project of the University of Washington, the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation, and the nonprofit Arboretum Foundation. The decision had been made to include a Japanese garden in the Arboretum in 1937, but it took 20 years for fundraising to begin. Construction of the Japanese garden was finally completed in 1960. On June 6, 2010, the garden had its 50 year celebration. The garden is a great place to visit and photograph. If you are ever in the Seattle area do include it in your plans, but remember they do not allow tripods.
