Covered Bench

Posted by
Bill Brown (California, United States) on 14 June 2010 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Flower covered bench at Japanese Garden Arboretum. This image is not as sharp as I would like; the garden has a not tripod policy and I had to shoot everything handheld, which I very seldom do.

Canon EOS 5D 1/640 second F/5.6 ISO 800 100 mm

what the heck's up with a no tripod policy......and outdoors??? they're all afraid we photographers are gonna make money selling our photos of their places....if only, right? It's a very cool image.....and looks great for handheld !

Looks fine to me. Such a shot makes me think I can smell the flowers. Very nice.

This is a beautiful shot - well seen and cleverly taken in the dappled light.

@Ronnie 2¢: Thank you! Another person saw me taking pictures in a different area and said I should go check out the bench.

Barbara from Florida, United States

I like the whimsical layout of the blossoms and light.
Never heard of a no tripod policy. Outdoors?
Perhaps they fear liability if someone were to trip over it.

@Barbara: Thanks for your comments! This is the first time I encountered this outdoors. I guess in some places if you hava a big camera and a tripod they assume you're a professional photographer. I did inquire about exceptions to the policy. It turns out that you can pay $30 to come in with tripod at a pre-arranged time before the garden opens to the public.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

What an extravagance! the white flowers are partying on the bench! And the sunlight enjoys their white smiles......Well composed...
